Post-Election Audits
An audit is a routine part of the post-election process designed to ensure our voting system works as expected and the results of the official certification are accurate. As directed by the Ohio Secretary of State, one or more contests per election, are examined by randomly selecting ballots to be hand-counted and compared to the electronic count.
Hamilton County Board of Elections follows industry best practice recommendations by conducting Risk Limiting Audits. They are designed to examine as many ballots as necessary to provide strong statistical evidence that the reported outcome is correct. The audit is conducted by bipartisan teams of sworn election officials and is open to the public.
