Early Voting in Hamilton County Kicks Off for May 6th Primary/Special Election
HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio – There will be a Primary/Special Election on May 6th, 2025, with Early Voting beginning on Tuesday, April 8th.
“All voters will have Issue 2 on the ballot and some precincts may have additional candidates or issues to vote on” said Director Sherry Poland. “To see what is on the ballot in your jurisdiction, visit the Board’s website to view a sample ballot.”
There is still time to register to vote or to update your name and/or address for the Primary/Special Election. The deadline to register or update is Monday April 7th, 2025. On April 7th, the Board of Elections (BOE) will be open until 9:00pm to receive paper registration forms or voters can register or update their name or address online, until 11:59pm, through the Ohio Secretary of State (VoteOhio.gov). Voters can check their registration, register, and/or update their registration on the BOE website (VoteHamiltonCountyOhio.gov) or in person at the Board of Elections, Public library or BMV.
17-year old’s who will be age 18 by the next General Election (November 4, 2025) may register to vote and may nominate candidates in primary elections. They cannot vote on Questions or Issues. 17-year-old, registered voters may vote only in the following jurisdictions: City of Cincinnati, City of Harrison, City of Sharonville (4th Ward) and the Village of Silverton.
There are three ways to cast your ballot in the May 6th Primary/Special Election:
- Voting Early by Mail – On April 8th, the Board of Elections will mail ballots to voters who have already requested their ballot. The deadline to apply is Tuesday April 29th. Applications can be downloaded on our website (gov) or call the BOE at our new phone number 513-946-8500. The BOE will be open until 8:30pm on April 29th. Ballots require $.73 in return postage (or one Forever stamp) or can be returned in person to the Hamilton County Board of Elections at 4700 Smith Road, Norwood.
*NEW ballot return procedure* - the Board of Elections 24/7 Drop Box (4700 Smith Road, Norwood) is available only to voters returning their own ballot. Voters returning a ballot on behalf of a family member or a voter with a disability must return those ballots to the BOE during business hours (VoteHamiltonCountyOhio.gov) and must complete a Ballot Delivery Attestation (Form 12-P).
- Voting Early In-Person – Voting at the Board’s Early Vote Center (4700 Smith Road, Norwood) begins on Tuesday, April 8th at 8:00am and continues through Sunday, May 4th at 5:00pm. A complete listing of early voting days/hours (attached) is available at (votehamiltoncountyohio.gov).
- Election Day Voting – Election Day voting is Tuesday, May 6th, 2025 from 6:30am-7:30pm. Voters should check their polling location on the BOE website (votehamiltoncountyohio.gov). If your voting location has changed, you will receive a postcard mailer from the Board of Elections with your correct polling location for this election.
ACCEPTABLE ID FOR VOTING – “Ohio law requires voters to have an acceptable, unexpired photo ID to vote. So, know the requirements BEFORE coming out to vote,” says Raquel Burgos, Deputy Director. For Photo ID requirements (attached), visit the Board’s website (VoteHamiltonCountyOhio.gov)
