Board of Elections Prepares for Heavy Turnout as Early Voting Begins:

New Traffic Patterns & Rules for Dropping Off Ballots

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio – there will be a Presidential Election on November 5th, 2024 and, at the Hamilton County Board of Elections, preparations are well-underway for Early Voting to begin on Tuesday, October 8th.

TODAY is the last day to register or update your name or address.  The Board of Elections will be open until 9:00pm on Monday October 7th to receive paper registration forms. Voters can also register or update their information online through the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office (VoteOhio.gov) until 11:59pm.

Early Voting begins TOMORROW, October 8th:

1) Voting by Mail – On October 8th, the Board of Elections is mailing 70,000 ballots to voters who have already requested them. Voters can continue to request Vote by Mail ballots through Tuesday, October 29th. Ballots will require $1.01 in postage to return, or voters can return the ballot directly to the Board of Elections.

*NEW This Year* - The 24/7 Drop Box is available only to voters returning their personal ballot. Voters                 returning a ballot on behalf of a family member or a person with a disability can return those ballots during               the Board’s business hours and must complete a Ballot Delivery Attestation Form.

During its business hours, the Board of Elections will operate a drive-through ballot drop-off so that voters               can return their ballots and fill out the Ballot Delivery Attestation without needing to park and enter the                     Board office.

2) Voting Early In-PersonVoting at the Board’s Early Vote Center (4700 Smith Road, Norwood) begins on Tuesday, October 8th at 8:00am and continues through to Sunday, November 3rd at 5:00pm. An Election Calendar (attached), with the Early Vote Center hours of operation, is available on the Board’s website (https://votehamiltoncountyohio.gov/).

The Board of Elections anticipates high turnout and heavy traffic surrounding the Board office and Early Vote Center during the Early Voting period. The Board encourages voters to use the FREE Central Parke Garage which is accessible by Montgomery Road or Smith Road.

“You may see a line when you come to vote early, but do not be deterred,” said Director Sherry Poland.  “Our team has worked to ensure an efficient process, and the lines move quickly.”

ACCEPTABLE ID FOR VOTING - Ohio’s photo ID laws have changed since the last Presidential Election, so it is important that voters know the requirements BEFORE coming out to vote,” says Alex Linser, Deputy Director.  For ID requirements, visit the Board’s website (https://votehamiltoncountyohio.gov/) to see the Acceptable Identification chart for voting (attached)

Key changes to Ohio’s Election ID Law include:

    • US passport or passport card
    • US military ID card, Ohio National Guard ID card, or US Department of Veterans Affairs ID card (mobile or physical)
    • Ohio’s new mobile-ID is NOT an acceptable form of ID for voting purposes
  • Documents no longer accepted as ID to vote: utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, concealed carry permit, or other government documents with current address
    • In-person voters who do not provide a valid ID will be able to vote provisionally
  • To Vote by Mail, a voter must submit ONE of the following (cannot be expired) along with a Vote by Mail Application:
    • Ohio Driver’s License or Ohio ID number
